Learn how ProCollage came to be
A question we’re often asked is ‘how did it all start?’
Florida, 2001... I was visiting my parents, and we were looking through an old family photo album we hadn’t looked at in years. Seeing those old photographs again after 15 years brought back happy memories as we reminisced about our childhood (my brother and I) and those “good old times”. It was a warm, comforting feeling to get reacquainted with those ‘forgotten’ moments.
Being a professional graphic design artist, I work with photos and digital files all the time being. And, an idea started to form in my mind. I wasn’t sure yet what it was, but I knew I’d figure it out at some point. I was so inspired just sharing the memories surrounding those photos with my family that, with the help of my mother (after I assured her the photographs would be returned unharmed) we chose around 70 photos for me to bring home and scan.
I still didn’t know what I was going to do with them, but I felt sure that anything I did would be better than “hiding” them in a photo album!
The idea finally hit me when the company I worked for began selling large color prints. I would take all of our favorite family photos that I had scanned and would somehow arrange them into a large print that could be framed and hung on a wall in my parents’ home.
I went to work and created my first photo collage (the one on the right) with 65 family photographs at 30"x36". It was my first collage, so I hadn’t yet developed a design style or skilled techniques, but even without a center focal photo, it was something I was very proud of. Better yet, I enjoyed doing putting it together!
A few months later, I returned to my parents’ home in Florida with the print rolled in a tube. The unveiling was something I’ll never forget. I unrolled it and witnessed unimagined reactions from my family. They were hysterical with laughter and tears! They would point and go “Oh my God! I didn’t even see that one! Look over here!” They enjoyed it so much that I knew I was on to something, and that I could do even better. The next day at the local frame store, their neighbors saw that collage and marveled. I got my first order right there!
That’s when ProCollage was born. I designed the logo, website and brochures. I worked on only a handful of collage orders at first, but when I had enough samples to post on the website, it went live and the business took off. Orders increased steadily over time, and I perfected the art of collage-making or collaging. As I honed my skills, our clients raved with passionate testimonials that inspired me to continue. Even today, feedback from clients is no less satisfying than the first.
We know we’re on the right track when more and more clients return for another project. We are very proud of that. We are always improving and growing our loyal following. To keep up with demand, we continue to build our team with more talented graphic artists and collaging professionals.
Our staff is delighted to create your collage and are always happy to help you. We guarantee your project will be a work-of-art that you will showcase on your wall and enjoy forever. Thank you again to all of our clients who have helped us thrive and succeed through the decades!
